Compare and Contrast- I chose photos from Thomas Heaton's website that all had one thing in common which is winter, or snow. First I chose a photo of Ice with bubbles and cracks because I thought I could easily replicate it because I have a pond near my home. My photo turned out pretty well and actually quite similar to that of Thomas Heaton's, but his instead contained more detail in the bubbles, and my photo didn't have any cracks. Next I chose a snow covered tree, but my tree was a pine and has different branching patterns as well as my background was a little more distracting, and contained more color. Lastly was a line of trees with a very pretty background and river, but my background contained a pretty sky and his contained a mountain range as well as a river in the foreground, but I personally like my image a little more because it is focusing a lot on the main subject rather than containing multiple big elements each distracting you from the other one, and mine has a beautiful orange cloudy sky which I really love.

Personal Artist Statement- In my photo Bubbly Ice I had to crop it to make the bubbles appear at the focal point rather than on the edge of the ice were they were originally. In the photo of ice, I had to experiment with the angles I took it at because at the wrong angle or viewpoint, there would be a reflection of the surrounding trees in the ice. For my photo "Triplets" I used the rule of thirds to make sure that the main subject was at the intersection of lines. I also used a very pretty background (the orange cloudy sky) to really give the image color and complexity. For my "Snowy Tree" I used backlighting to make this image have more color and focus more on the subject resting at the focal point.
